24 Days

Grab a cuppa, I am on my soap box!

Well, this is my second to last blog until Coffin Hop. I will have a creepy story for you this year. So will a few of my lovely scary friends and there will be prizes too!

I have had busy last week. I have a contract on my house and now I wait for a closing date. We were told that we were to work from Phoenix when we sold the house. Now after selling we were told no. Not really happy with that. Little that can be done about it at this point but looking for a new job.

This week as I was fixing tea the tele was on and I heard a school was banning books. What is this, the 21st century or did I fall back in time? What's next southern Arizona book burning? One paragraph in this book upset one parent. This parent says it’s porn. My question is if you are against it fine, but why take something out of context? The whole book is about how a young person survived abuse. I know it’s just me but I think that could help a teenager. This was a high school too, not junior high or elementary school.

This is Banned Books Week and yet another small town wants a book banned. What will they do next, burn books they don’t like? It seems to me if you don’t like a book, don’t read it. I want to know what gives a few the idea that they can dictate what others read, write or paint. The arts have always been attacked by small minded people. I think you should be allowed to read what ever you please. I may not like it but who cares.

Freedom is for everyone not just a few. Some books that have been banned are now called the greatest literary works. Ever hear of a little book called “To Kill a Mockingbird”?

Go read a banned book and be glad you still have that freedom. So what book will you read?

Suggestions:

The Catcher in the Rye

Catch-22

The Great Gatsby

Slaughterhouse five

Kite Runner

Have a great time reading friends. Cheers!

  1. Thanks for the reading tips. I've actually only read the Kite Runner and that was pretty touching.
